About Menopause

A natural decline in oestrogen occurs as we age. This decline in oestrogen can then cause all the symptoms of perimenopause and menopause.

Perimenopause is when you have symptoms of menopause but your periods have not stopped.

Perimenopause ends and you reach menopause when periods have stopped for a year.

Symptoms can be really different for each woman and can start years before periods stop and last for years afterwards.

There are lots of things you can do to help with the symptoms including replacing the missing hormones with hormone treatment.

Perimenopause and menopause can cause a wide range of symptoms including:

  • hot flushes and sweats

  • heart palpitations

  • increased anxiety

  • low mood

  • “brain fog”

  • irritability

  • sore muscles and joints

  • hair loss

  • decreased interest in sex

  • vaginal dryness

  • headaches

  • sleep disturbances
